This story is again about a cooperative bank. Exams for promotions were over when I was working there as Marketing Head. Formally, I use to impart training about marketing. Five ladies passed the promotional exams and as well as the interviews. But the postings were away from their home town, and there were only two vacancies. To management’s frustration, everyone refused promotion. The HR department was unable to help because the position was in higher management and they only wanted an experienced officer. Taking a re-exam was a costly and time-consuming affair.
The bank’s CEO knew about my workshop on ‘Self Esteem Tree and Action Plan of Life’. He called me and said, “Kuch Karo.” There was no time for a formal workshop because the orders were to be issued on the same day. I accepted this as a challenge.
I called all these ladies in my cabin, and we spoke about for an hour. I just posed a few key questions to them from my workshop, like: “Will your family give 5 years of their life for your growth?” “Will you ever be happy to work under a less capable person?” “Will your family ever recognise your sacrifices?” So on and so forth. At the end of the hour, all five were ready to take the promotion with the transfer. Now it was the management's headache to choose only 2 out of 5.
Now even after 7 years those 2 officers call me and are happy about the step they have taken. One has shifted permanently to the place of transfer along with her family.
